Surprise award at 2018 Cannes Film FestivalAfter 12 days of celebs, movies and of course some amazing fashion, the 2018 Cannes Film Festival has come to a close, but not without a few last surprises up its sleeve as the jury, headed by Cate Blanchett, handed out this year's awards.
The biggest surprise of the whole 2018 Cannes Film Festival is Japanese author Hirokazu Koreeda, who has won jury's hearts with his movie Shoplifters (2018), about a family of small-time crooks who take in a child they find on the street.
Shoplifters (2018) also won Palme d'Or, the main prize of the festival.
Koreeda was not seen as the favorite for the prize, but Cate Blanchett - the president of this year's jury - insisted that the whole 2018 Cannes Film Festival is not going to be about politics, so the Palme d'Or didn't went to Spike Lee or Jean Luc Godard - who were among nominees - but to a director who made a movie about simple, ordinary people, and the movie whose focus is on different problem.
