Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to join Spider-Man crew as MysterioJake Gyllenhaal is reportedly in talks to play villain Mysterio in the 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' sequel. If he signs on, this will be the 'Jarhead' star's first comic book role.
Jake Gyllenhaal almost appeared in a Spider-Man movie before - Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 (2014). The star of the movie Tobey Maguire injured his back on the set, and Gyllenhaal was eyed as a replacement.
Now, it seems that his career in Spider-Verse is guaranteed, but it is a little bit different universe, and he will not be Spider-Man.
In fact, he will be an old nemesis of Peter Parker - Mysterio. Mysterio first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man comic book, way back in 1964.
Considered by some to be one of the most interesting villains in all of the comic books, Mysterio never had a big screen debut.
Maybe he will appear in Untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel that is set to premiere on July 5, 2019.
Directed by Jon Watts, and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the sequel to the Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) will feature Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Jacob Batalon and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio!
